I am a published writer, criminologist, former criminal barrister and academic. Being a glutton for punishment, I have two PhDs, one in criminology and one in creative writing.
I have over twenty years of teaching experience and have run crime writing workshops in various venues including art centres, universities, theatres, bookshops and libraries. I enjoy exploring the creative process with students using discussion, writing exercises, the exchange of ideas and constructive feedback. Several of my students have gone on to be published writers and one has recently been nominated for The Crime Writers Association Debut Dagger.
I have also taken part as a panellist and/or participating moderator and public speaker in various festivals in London, Turin, Portsmouth, Glasgow, Leicester, Harrogate, Belfast and Bristol. I have regularly performed readings of my work specialising in short stories with a crime and/or supernatural element.
I have written two crime novels set in 19th century Turin, featuring the world’s first criminologist Cesare Lombroso – City of Devils which won the Good Housekeeping First Novel Prize and was nominated for a Specsavers/Crime Writers Association best read award and its sequel The Devil’s Daughters. They are both published by Orion.
