It's been a while since we put on any shows at this beautiful chapel in the city centre. A more reverential space than you'd normally expect for indie promotions in Manchester, but the perfect setting for what is going to be a very special night.
2010 was a year of change for Hannah: her debut solo release, the fabulous Rebox EP on the equally fabulous Static Caravan label; recording her debut album with Tunng's Mike Lindsay; a move to London; touring as part of The Unthanks live band, with TV appearances on Later and live shows at Glastonbury and many other summer festivals...
But 2011 is set to be even more of a landmark year. Hannah's stunning debut album, Broken Wave, is released on 31st January, again on Static Caravan, and it has been gathering richly deserved plaudits from the cream of the UK's music press.
Hannah will be touring with her own band throughout the year, but we think that this intimate show will be the best of the lot...
"Vibrant folk-pop with a stunning voice to savour" UNCUT****
"Inventively arranged, sweet without being cloying, there's just the right hint of weirdness and mystery lurking beneath the fragile folk pop surface... in a word, charming." Q****
"from trad Irish ballads to Steve Reich by way of Judee Sill and Ennio Morricone... it's a hard-to-pigeonhole opus which slaloms mellifluously between senstive folk reveries, Tom Waits-like, junkshop hymnals and lavish chamber-pop essays" MOJO One to Watch 2011
"delightfully arranged folk-pop... it brims with inventive keyboards, brass and strings" MOJO****
"a timely antidote to the plethora of vacuous, coma-inducing, Marling-apeing, fem-folk automatons... we congratulate her on making a great folk record that improves with each listen" VICE
