WOULD-BE-GOODS
Ah, the Would-Be-Goods, Matinee Records' elegant and melancholy pop legends. You have Jessica Griffin's beautiful and distinctly English vocals, Peter Momtchiloff's crisp and colourful guitar, Andy Warren's confident bass lines and then there is the happiest drummer in pop: Debbie Green. No drummer is able to pay such varied and strong rhythms, sing such clear harmonies and carry such a sunny smile as Debbie. The combination of these four distinctive personalities and talents makes for one of my favourite pop bands around. Jessica has been writing, playing and singing fantastic songs like 'The Camera Loves Me' since the late 80s and the band continue to write complex and beautiful compositions. They played HDIF in Brixton in January and debuted a fresh tune! This band are one of indiepop's and the UK's quietly legendary gems. Do not miss this!

THE STARLETS
Somehow this accomplished Scottish band have been around for about ten years but I only just heard of them and witnessed their brilliant live performance this past December at the Glasgow Popfest. The band had a huge sound accented by violin and trumpet, the latter ably played by Nigel of Camera Obscura. What completely won me over though, was the charming between-song Glaswegian storytelling from Biff, the band's vocalist, acoustic guitarist and frontperson. The audience was in stitches at Biff's stories and consequently, each song soared. We were theirs. Have a look at the video below to catch a glimpse of what we saw and what you will see when The Starlets play for us on this night. The band are on their way to Paris the following day so come say 'bon voyage!' to them this Friday night.

CINEPLEXX
Sebastian Litmanovich is an incredibly witty, sweet and tender, outgoing and FUN personality, songwriter and performer. You watch him and you feel as if you are on holiday. Stressed? Tired of the dreary weather? Week too long? Then you want a dose of Cineplexx. He has been creating his sometimes upbeat, sometimes downbeat richly textured songs for many years abroad. We are lucky to now have him sprinkling his Spanish-language tunes upon us in London. Come welcome this fabulous recent London transplant to the city!
