FILM: 'THE DELIAN MODE' ( Dir.KARA BLAKE / 2010 )

THE DELIAN MODE is a short experimental documentary revolving around the life and work of the unsung BBC RADIOPHONIC heroine and electronic music pioneer DELIA DERBYSHIRE, best known for her groundbreaking sound treatment and realisation of the famous DOCTOR WHO theme music. A collage of sound and image created in the spirit of Derbyshire’s unique approach to audio creation
and manipulation, this film illuminates such soundscapes onscreen while paying tribute to a woman whose work has influenced electronic musicians for decades.

The film features interviews with Brian Hodgson and Dick Mills of the now defunct BBC Radiophonic Workshop, the founder of Electronic Music Studios Peter Zinovieff, musicians Peter Kember (Sonic Boom), Adrian Utley (Portishead) and Ann Shenton (Add N to X) as well as other friends and colleagues of Delia.

FILM: 'CIRCLE OF LIGHT' (The Photography Of Pamela Bone)

This extraordinarily beautiful film without words is composed from using PAMELA BONE'S unique photographic transparencies and it's soundtrack provided by DELIA DERBYSHIRE and ELSA STANSFIELD. Her talent has been said to 'push photography beyond its own limits, liberating it to the status of an entirely creative art form.' Inspired by nature, and being more responsive to feeling than to thought, Miss Bone has sought to express the mystery and beauty of the inner vision through photographic means alone: landscape has the quality of a dream; children on the sea-shore have a sense of their own enchantment, trees are forboding and strange when night moves in their arms. It took Miss Bone twenty years to find the right technique and to overcome the limitations that photography would impose.

JAMIE ALLEN is a Canadian artist based in Newcastle. With circuitMusic, he uses raw op amp components with minimal effects to experiment and revel in the sound of pure, electric signals. Allen's compositions are streamlined, yet remarkably varied with harsh walls of static, dense drones, and playful rhythms all vying for the listener's headspace.

LIVE MUSIC: ADAM PARKINSON (CULTURE LAB NCL)

Adam Parkinson is a PhD candidate based in Culture Lab and ICMUS.

He likes to program in Max / MSP and Pure Data, and has been developing musical iPhone apps for live performance and improvisation. He uses iPhones in the duo 'Atau and Adam', with Atau Tanaka.

His music ranges from glitchy, textural improvisations to bass heavy dancefloor assaults and avant garde disco pop.

He has done remixes for Maximo Park, Dextro, Si Begg and Cakeboy (and Chris De Burgh too, but he doesn't know about it), and had music released on Entr'acte, Noodles, Mutate Records and others.

Multi coloured slime bubbles and experimental/semi improvised fun from Les Cox (sportifs) multi intrumentalist Micheal J Patterson, who uses Gameboys, Turntables, Keyboards and Tape Machines to make for interesting and gluey results.
