We are very proud to present a gig from one of the greatest R&B groups of the 1960s!
The Birds started out in 1964 and quickly became well known on the rhythm and blues scene in England. They had a similar sound to rival bands such as The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Yardbirds, The Pretty Things, etc., but never achieved the same status. Starting out with a hard R&B sound, they later began infusing it with Motown-style vocal harm...onies.
Having recorded 3 singles for Decca and a final disc for Reaction; the band split up in 1967, partially based on the name confusion with Los Angeles group The Byrds. Their final release "Say Those Magic Words" b/w "Daddy Daddy" used the name Birds Birds in an attempt to distinguish themselves. Several unreleased tracks from the group have turned up and appear on their "Collector's Guide to Rare British Birds" CD.
In 2009, The Birds lead vocalist Ali MacKenzie performed two Birds tracks at a special reunion gig of 'Les Fleur Des Lys' with house band of the night, the Small Fakers. Ali and the band realised something good had happened on the night, with many people asking whether they were going to be doing it again.
In 2010 rehearsals started for a full set of Birds material, including many tracks from the 'Collector's Guide' album, alongside songs that were part of The Birds live setlist back in '65-'66.
They will be supported by the UK's premier Small Faces tribute act, Small Fakers!
