JEFFREY LEWIS - solo acoustic (New York, NY)
Once again we are super-pleased to be hosting Rough Trade recording artist and New York's premier alt.poet Mr Jeffrey Lewis, appearing tonight solo but armed with words and cartoons. As with all previous Jeff gigs, this will sell out so tickets are a good idea.
the Big Apple’s best-kept secret. NYC’s never exactly lacked eccentric singer-songwriters, but all, from Lou Reed up to Adam Green, would struggle to out-boho Jeffrey Lewis… - NME
Jeffrey Lewis is a god, there’s no denying it.
- Drowned in Sound
Compared to the flash of the Strokes, Lower East Side boy Jeff is a thrift shop minstrel from the more interesting side of town. An excellent urban addition to the new American folk of Sufjan Stevens and Devendra Banhart. - Daily Mirror

SERGEANT BUZFUZ (London)
Drawing deep from the darkest lines of British folk music but unmistakeably borne of grubby urban living at the start of the 21st century, Sergeant Buzfuz (unlike their namesake from The Pickwick Papers) strive for the truth, however ugly that truth might turn out to be. Take for example,'Here Come The Popes Part 1 (1st Millennium)' from new album 'The Jewelled Carriageway'; a scrupulously-researched history of the papacy sounds like an unpromising subject for a popsong, but listen to it and it's full of depravity, filth, exploitation, hypocrisy, lies, suspect morals and an overwhelming obsession with sex - just like the top 40.

THE NEW YORK HOWL (New York, NY)
formed in the depths of NYC's downtown underground in July of 2005. All four musicians had been associating and performing together for years prior to unifying and collaborating on their unique sound. Each member adds a unique and highly individual style to their collective whole -- from raucuous and raw punk energy, to soulful uplifting gospel, to ecstatic jump blues to new wave performance art esthetics and the anti-folk shenanigans of Brer Brian-- the band is unified in their disparate ways.
