KARKWA :
Karkwa formed in 1998 and made themselves heard the next year, when the five music die-hards performed at the Cégeps en spectacle contest in Montreal and caught the eye of the Office franco-québécois pour la jeunesse (a France-Quebec youth exchange organization), which invited them to perform at the Printemps du Québec cultural expo in Paris.
Crowned with a popular and critical success, the latest album won the prestigious Polaris Prize, awarded to the Best Album of the Year in Canada, and a Felix at the Gala ADISQ, for the Alternative Album of the Year in Quebec.
MOUTH OF GHOSTS:
"Fusing alternative rock and trip-hop, The Mouth Of Ghosts make moody, textured music, fueled by ragged guitars and distant electronics."
"The Mouth of Ghosts layer gloom upon folktronica standards to create a sense of undulating dread."
Based in London, The Mouth Of Ghosts formed at the end of 2010. Effortlessly switching between dark and sweet, and drawing inspiration from artists ranging from Bjork to Portishead to Opeth, the band's sound is at once expansive yet immediate and honest.
The band have been gigging around London venues since March 2011 and have quickly created a buzz on the local circuit through a combination of tight musical and powerful vocal performances.
ECHOTONE:
Echotone began in a room, in Essex. Two old friends called Lee and James, armed with acoustic guitars, met up to jam and began to write songs together. They looked upon what they had created, and found it good.
They developed in other rooms - generally rooms in buildings where alcohol was being served. After their first gig, playing at a friend's birthday party, the 'Tone (for such were they known) played a wide range of venues like the Queen's Theatre in Hornchurch and the TMF Festival in Orset, supporting acts like Duvet, Birdlane, and The 80's Matchbox B-Line Disaster.
Echotone grew - two became four. Melanie added keyboards and beatific vocals and Paul added percussion and beat-trific beats toget even the most jaded of feet shuffling. Three part harmonies, catchy melodies and killer tunes are the 'Tone's stock in trade. They may be playing somewhere near you soon - keep an ear out for their eclectic blend of folk and rock... frock, if you like.
