Hey! Manchester is pleased to be welcoming one of the UK's brightest new bands to the Castle.
Treetop Flyers' beautifully tangled roots soak up a timeless musical current - one that follows a musical lineage from The Band, Neil Young and Crosby, Stills & Nash, through to contemporaries Fleet Foxes, My Morning Jacket and Josh T Pearson.
Their 'soul'n'roll' has been gathering a pace since 2008. The self-released To Bury The Past EP picked up early plaudits from the Guardian and NME.com, and gigs at London strongholds Bush Hall, Notting Hill Arts Centre and the Blue Flowers club night placed TTF firmly on the radar of the capital's live audiences.
Released by Communion - the label co-founded by Mumford & Sons' Ben Lovett - Treetop Flyers' debut single is self-described as 'pure country soul'. It features Things Will Change - 'a love song, about wanting things to change for the better' - and Long Cold Winter, a reflection of the typical seasonal British malaise, and is backed with two acoustic recordings Rose Is In The Yard and Disappearing Kind.
The London-based five-piece recently wrapped up a tour with Caitlin Rose and are in the midst of a summer of festival dates including appearances at the Camden Crawl, Hop Farm and Blissfields. The band also won the coveted Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition earlier this year, leading to an upcoming performance at the festival.
Local support comes from Blind Atlas. Hailing from Denver, Colorado and disparate points around the UK, the band were united by a shared preoccupation with drinking, failed relationships and the Flying Burrito Brothers. They concoct a new take on American alternative country and classic British rock 'n' roll; taking inspiration from the Rolling Stones and Townes Van Zandt through to Calexico and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy.
