Hey! Manchester is excited to be welcoming Montreal’s Elephant Stone to Dulcimer, who is joined for this double-bill by The Earlies’ Sara Lowes.
Elephant Stone is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Rishi Dhir, a founding member of Montreal pop/psyche veterans the High Dials, and sitar player for basically every outlaw psyche band out there (Black Angels, the Earlies, Hopewell, Brian Jonestown Massacre).
In 2009, Elephant Stone released their debut album, The Seven Seas. Melding Rishi’s obsession with the perfect pop song and the trippiest raga, The Seven Seas, was warmly embraced by the global indie-scene and long-listed for the coveted 2009 Polaris Music Prize. Last year saw the release of The Glass Box EP, a five-song suite of inspired power-pop/psyche classics, plus a supporting slot on the Brian Jonestown Massacre’s North American tour, and an inaugural tour of Europe with sold-out dates in London and Berlin.
‘The Seven Seas coolly captures Dhir’s love of both classic British pop and Indian raga subcurrents while brimming with messages of peace, hope and love’
Sara Lowes has developed a great reputation touring as a session musician with artists including King Creosote, The Earlies and Jim Noir. Last year’s Red Deer Club EP, The Single Girl, achieved some great press and radio support from the likes of Marc Riley and CityLife.
‘Boasting five tracks of genre-leaping splendour – imagine Broadcast producing Roisin Murphy while Feist sprinkles over melodic fairy-dust – Lowes conjures up a beguiling tapestry of jazz-tinged pop-tronica, rich with warmth, idiosyncrasy and delirious pop sensibility’ – CityLife
Sara’s live shows feature a unique mix of live drums, loops, midi bass, keys, guitar and trombone.
