We put MJ Hibbett on with Chris T-T earlier in the year, in what turned out to be one of the best decisions ever. It was so good, we had to get him back. Not only that, but it was so good that when we needed a support for his new show, we could think of nothing better than getting him to be the support too, so there will be a solo set, followed by the main event.
After a triumphant run at the Edinburgh and Camden Fringe MJ Hibbett (and his friend Steve) are taking their new show 'Moon Horse vs The Mars Men of Jupiter' out on tour.
It's an action-packed two-man science fiction rock opera featuring tap dancing, the secret truth about the moon landings, cowboys, Margaret Thatcher, killer robots and the incredible story of who really designed the Selfridges Building in Birmingham.
The show was written by 6Music regular and indie legend MJ Hibbett, creator of last year's fringe show 'Dinosaur Planet' and indie hits like 'Hey Hey 16K' and 'The Lesson Of The Smiths'. He and his friend Steve Hewitt play all the roles, using just a few hats and a couple of props from novelty shops to create an hour of thrill power guaranteed to leave you smiling at the gags, humming the tunes, and maybe even nodding sagely at some of the large ideas proposed.
'Anyone who likes MJ Hibbett will have a much nicer life' – Robin Ince
'Amazing! Like two drunken dads picking up a guitar at a party!' – Radio One
'MJ Hibbett – Top Of The Pops!' – Eddie Argos
MJ Hibbett & The Validators have performed live on Radio One, had a Record Of The Year in Rolling Stone, an Album Of The Day on 6Music, released one of the first ever viral videos, toured the UK and Europe, featured in an Edinburgh Fringe Festival show, and recorded a science fiction rock opera, all while maintaining their complete independence from outside record labels. They've had a bloody good time doing it too.
