Your form tutor will be Matthew Crosby (the short one with glasses from Pappy's).
Matthew's debut solo show, AdventureParty was a sell-out success at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2011, earning him a string of 4 and 5 star reviews. With Pappy's, Matthew won a Chortle Award and has been nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award. Without them, Matthew has written for and performed in a number of TV and radio shows including 8 out of 10 Cats (Ch4), The Now Show (R4), The Kevin Bishop Show (Ch4), Ask Rhod Gilbert (BBC1) and The King Is Dead (BBC3). "A rising star" (BBC Culture Show), "Intriguingly Matthew Crosby from Bromley is also a comedian" (What's On in Kent Magazine).
Lesson 1: Maths with Matt Parker
Possibly the only person to hold the prestigious title of London Mathematical Society Popular Lecturer while simultaneously having a sold-out comedy show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Matt is always keen to mix his two passions of mathematics and stand-up. Matt Parker is one third of Festival of the Spoken Nerd, and he appears regularly on BBC Radio4's Infinite Monkey Cage and writes about maths for The Guardian. "exponentially funny" (Three Weeks) "not just for maths geeks" (Chortle)
Lesson 2: Music with Steve Pretty.
Steve's one-man shows On the Origin of the Pieces and Perfect Mixtape have been variously described as 'an original delight' (Whatsonstage), 'mild mayhem' (Sunday Express) and as both 'original, intelligent comedy' and 'odd' by the same publication (Fest). Steve can be seen playing various instruments at the Alternative Comedy Memorial Society, Karaoke Circus and many of Robin Ince's shows, and you might also have seen him blowing into things and shouting with the Hackney Colliery Band.
Lesson 3: Science with Steve Mould.
As well as performing as a stand-up comedian, Steve is the science expert for Blue Peter and one half of sketch double act Mould & Arrowsmith: "Beyond nerdy, yet playful and ingeniously funny... far more entertaining than they have any right to be." (The List). Steve is one third of Festival of the Spoken Nerd, and he regularly appears at Cheltenham, Brighton and Newcastle Science Festivals and is also part of Guerilla Science.
BREAK TIME
Lesson 4: PSHE with Helen Arney.
Helen Arney is a prolific writer of comedy songs with a geeky edge. As well as performing alone, she can also be seen in all-girl comedy band The Balconettes, and as one third of science comedy phenomenon Festival of the Spoken Nerd. Helen recently appeared in "Uncaged Monkeys" alongside Robin Ince, Prof Brian Cox, Simon Singh, Dr Ben Goldacre, and Tim Minchin. In 2011 she appeared on BBC Radio 4 as a guest on The Infinite Monkey Cage and Wondermentalist Cabaret.
Lesson 5: (Double) History with Humphrey Ker.
Humphrey's debut solo show: Dymock Watson: Nazi Smasher proved to be the must-see hit of 2011 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, winning him the 2011 Foster Comedy Award for 'Best Newcomer'. A hugely acclaimed comedy performer and writer, he is also one third of critically acclaimed sketch group The Penny Dreadfuls. Together they created the enormously successful Aeneas Faversham shows, along with two excellently received radio series - and several radio plays.
