SHRAG
www.myspace.com/shrag
... Thrillingly addictive riot grrrl-tinged post-punk from Brighton/London. Think The Fall, think Comet Gain, think Bikini Kill... think that shockingly-underappreciated second Elastica album if you like. Their second album 'Life! Death! Prizes!' was one of 2010's best - check out the single 'Rabbit Kids' for starters. The new Andy-Miller produced LP 'Canines' is ready to drop (via the Fortuna POP! and WIAIWYA stables), and we're totally fucking ecstatic to have 'em here.
"spectacularly bitter indie girls-set-on-stun dual vocal attack... one of the better bands to juxtapose schmindie twee and angered literary abstraction since 1990s unsung legends Prolapse" - David McNamee, The Guardian
TUNABUNNY
www.reverbnation.com/tunabunny
More post-punk awesomeness from Athens, GA. Intelligent, vital and way cooler than you, Tunabunny's self-titled first album was a enthralling, fizzing mess designed with the sole intention of destroying pop music. Last year's follow-up 'Minima Moralia' was even smarter, amplifying the hooks and ramping up their sinister, intoxicating brilliance. If you're willing to hold with the theory that there's a tradition of great art-influenced American indie bands, starting with Sonic Youth and incorporating Throwing Muses along the way, you might just wanna consider that the ever-improving Tunabunny are next on that line. CAN'T. FUCKING. WAIT.
"makes you wonder why anyone would fall for polished emoting when you can have sulky little songs that kick cans around the yard in stripy knee-socks to let you know how just pissed-off they are and still manage to be adorable as kittens. Kittenish or Kim-ish - pick a Kim, any Kim - Minima Moralia is as cute and snarly and clever as either" - Lucy Cage, Collapse Board
TOWN BIKE
townbike.bandcamp.com
Formed as a pop reaction to self-congratulatory indie dullards everywhere, Town Bike have charmed their way around the country with their effortless pop hooks, punk rock urgency and a healthy doillop of bile. Unwittingly becoming an internet sensation thanks to their ode to McFly's Dougie Poyner, the band are currently recording for their second album, which shows no signs of being anything other than utterly brilliant. You've heard, you've seen, you know... the Town Bike show is a total fucken winner.
"Town Bike's particular interpretation totally reminds me of all those great US homocore bands from the early 90s - y'know, Pansy Division and their ilk - and I rather like the gratuitous profanity... It totally fucking rocks, you bastard pissing shit-fucker" - Everett True, Collapse Board
MEOW MEOW
www.myspace.com/meowmeowband
Every town needs a great twee-pop-punk band, and Meow Meow are Liverpool's own. Lesser-spotted in recent years for reasons known only to them, their demo and 2010 download single for the WIAIWYA label provide all the compelling evidence you'll ever need to recognise that this band are more than merely deserving of your love and devotion. Like Go Sailor? Cub? Dressy Bessy? All Girl Summer Fun Band? Tiger Trap? Colour Me Wednesday? This band is most definitely for you.
"That there are bands out there as ace as Meow, Meow which have so far eluded my, admittedly limited, ear makes my heart sing... Imagine your favourite summer band. Then double them. And book them to play in your town" - A Layer Of Chips
