'heartbreakingly beautiful' 8/10 NME
Brighton's The Miserable Rich are back on tour after the release of their third album, 'Miss You In The Days'. Opulent sunshine-washed sounds led by violin and cello, with acoustic guitar and double bass building to crescendo with piano, charango and drums.
Will Calderbank and James de Malplaquet turn the traditions of indie, folk and electronica on their collective head with a modern chamber quintet, providing a home for Mike Siddell (Lightspeed Champion, Kate Walsh, Hope Of The States), Rhys Lovell and Jim Briffett (Clearlake).
They bring breathtaking emotional folk together with the spiraling beauty of simple strings and de Malplaquet's astonishingly versatile voice. Describing their current material as 'all sex and death' they follow a small album release tour through various castles, churches and haunted houses in England, including an incredible performance in Oxford Castle Unlocked - with a giant European tour. If you haven't seen them live, grab this opportunity to see them play a tremendous line up with Oxford/London bands Duotone and The Cooling Pearls. If you have seen them before - you'll know to come along again then!
DUOTONE
"One of Britain's most innovative and intriguing bands"- Rock 'N' Reel
"Folkin' great!" Rob De Bank - BBC Radio 1
Duotone, aka Barney Morse-Brown (cellist for Imagined Village & Chris Woods, Handmade Life) writes and performs contemporary acoustic songs with James Garrett. They loop guitars and cellos, percussion and voices to create ethereal soundscapes for poignant lyrics to weave through. Following hugely successful appearances at End of the Road Festival and London's South Bank Centre in 2010 Duotone have regularly been mesmerising audiences around the country with their shows that breathlessly move from riotous energy all the way down to the most delicate moments of heartfelt intimacy. Ropes, the second album by Duotone was released in March on ECC records, via Proper Music Distribution.
"The wilfully distinctive duo of Barney Morse-Brown and James Garrett bring dash of strangeness to their spring-clear acoustic guitar lines backed by sombre cello harmonies". Guitarist Magazine
THE COOLING PEARLS - Awash with violin, acoustic guitar, baritone, haunting harmonies, drunken poetry and a host of musical trinkets, The Cooling Pearls make original folk that is sung and played with heartfelt honesty and warmth, and features members of We Aeronauts, The Gullivers & The Mountain Parade.
