The Musical Comedy Awards is back! Now in it's fourth year, the MCA has grown in stature to become an annual fixture in the comedy calendar and the place to see the UK's finest up and coming musical comedians alongside some of the best established acts of the genre on the circuit.
Over the years the MCA has provided a launch pad to superstar acts like Frisky and Mannish (2009 Finalists), Abandoman (2010 winners) and Jay Foreman (Best Newcomer 2009 and now touring with Dave Gorman) and created a thriving independent platform to celebrate the artform that is musical comedy. The competition has also played host to stars of the genre such as David O' Doherty, Mitch Benn, Bo Burnham, Pippa Evans, Isy Suttie and many more.
The Final of the 2012 MCA will see six finalists who have progressed through a series of heats in London battle it out to win the musical comedy crown of this prestigious competition.
Tom Adams - 'A quietly assured comic, whose material is constantly unexpected...funny, original, whimsical songs' - Kate Copstick, The Scotsman
Rachel Parris - "Rachel Parris brings her mature song-writing skills to bear on ballads. An elegant performer with rich, witty numbers...clearly in command of her style" - Steve Bennett, Chortle
Rob Carter - "...downplayed musical numbers, modest persona and quietly quirky metaphor" - Steve Bennett, Chortle
Clare Lomas - "Clare Lomas is a breath of fresh air - brilliant, beautiful and extremely funny. Musical comedy just got that little bit cooler." Tim Arthur - Time Out
Bob & Jim - "their fast paced character comedy is truly inspired and will have you realising your full range of laughs, from hearty chuckles to gleeful titters" - Liam Garrett, British Comedy Guide
James Rowland - "James is an amazingly high energy performer with show-stopping material - watch this space" - Ed Chappel, Avin a Larf
Alongside the finalists there will be a performance from the WeGotTickets Best Newcomer, Cambridge trio Fair & Square, plus an extended headline set from the undisputed musical comedy superstars of the moment Frisky & Mannish.
"A riotous night out." James Kettle, The Guardian
"A constantly evolving force of musical nature... there's barely pause for breath..." Damon Smith, Metro
"Laura Corcoran and Matthew Jones ooze so much energy and fizz it is hard to resist when they ask you to get involved... boy, do they do it well. Simon Cowell would struggle to fault this." Bruce Dessau, The Evening Standard
The evening will be hosted by 2010 MCA Runners Up, the brilliant Horse & Louis.
"Wryly funny songs and quirky lines...a smartness to the writing and a downplayed elegance to their performance. Watch them grow." Steve Bennett, Chortle
Don't miss this celebration of the UK's best musical comedy acts!
