★ Ari Hest - www.arihest.com
With the release of Sunset Over Hope Street in 2011, Ari Hest put out his first full length album of new material in four years. That’s not to say he hasn’t been busy in the years between.
After releasing The Break-In on Columbia Records in 2007, Ari launched his highly successful 52 Project, a subscription-based service that found him writing, recording, and releasing a new song every Monday for an entire year. 52 new songs in 52 weeks. At the end of the year, the subscribers were asked to vote for their 12 favorite songs from the project and the ones that got the most votes were then reworked and released in the form of the album Twelve Mondays in early 2009.
52 helped Ari explore different genres and experiment with new instrumentation throughout the year. And even with 40 unreleased songs under his belt after the release of Twelve Mondays, Ari kept writing and experimenting. The end result was Sunset Over Hope Street. The album is a slight departure from Ari’s previous work with the inclusion of a string section on the majority of tracks and several piano-driven songs instead of the more familiar guitar sound he’s been known for.
Currently, Ari is working on a sixth studio album with producer Gerry Leonard(Duncan Sheik, Donna Lewis). The album is due to come out this fall.
★ Alex Berger - www.alexbergermusic.com
Citing Randy Newman, Tom Waits & George Gershwin as key influences, London-born, multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter Alex Berger is celebrating. He was recently announced as winner of Best Story Song at the Independent Music Awards for the title track of his debut album, Snow Globe, judged by Tom Waits, Seal & Anthony DeCurtis (Rolling Stone) among others. He also picked up the VOX POP 'People's Voice' award in the same category.
With growing radio support from the BBC, lots of touring & a follow-up record featuring the likes of Adam Levy on guitar (Norah Jones, Tracy Chapman), Joe Bonadio on drums (Sting, Roseanne Cash) & Gregory M. Jones on Bass (Ben E. King, Astrud Gilberto), life is good for this 'genuine & heartfelt talent' (Joel Crane - Q, NME).
★ Chrissi Poland - www.chrissipoland.com
The first thing that will capture you is her voice. Then, her electrifying stage presence. And her songs…most of all, her soul.
Chrissi Poland is a true soul singer, writer, and multi-instrumentalist. Weaving in the sounds of blues and roots, she channels a sound that captivates and compels people to wonder how "that voice comes from that little body”. This is a voice that truly captures those who listen.
Compounded with her electrifying stage presence, Chrissi is an artist you experience, not just hear. While currently touring the world with the internationally massive pop band Scissor Sisters, having opened for Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball tour, she has also released her first EP independantly. Songs From The Concrete was recieved with critical acclaim in both in the US and UK, which led to her solo debut at the Glastonbury Music Festival in England. She is currently in the studio recording her follow-up EP, a new collection of rhythmically driving songs that pack a powerful punch, in contrast to the more introspective, slow-burn of her first release.
Chrissi has shared the stage, performed, and recorded with artists such as Sting, Elvis Costello, Moby, and Kylie Minogue. Chrissi also tours and performs regularly with Soul Man, Sam Moore of Sam & Dave. One of the pioneers of soul, Sam say of Chrissi: “Now this is a girl you got to hear”.
"Her movements are fluid and rhythmic, her vocals are flawless and her love radiates from the tips of her fiery red hair to the heels of her fierce knee high boots". –Christina Morelli, NYC Artscene
