YELLOW SWANS

Yellow Swans play a constantly evolving mass of psychedelic noise that is both physically arresting and psychically liberating. Their music is
powerful rendering of free rock, black electronics, and white light
vibrations. Consisting of Pete Swanson (vocals, drum machine, and electronics) and
Gabriel Mindel Saloman (guitars, feedback, electronics), Yellow Swans
create a dense ocean of sound using various analog and digital
machines, all locked in a spiraling web of feedback. Yellow
Swans, having spent two years in Oakland, CA, are based once again in
Portland, OR, where they originally formed in the Fall of 2001. They are currently working on their third studio album, to be released later this year on LOAD Records. The two Yellow Swans shows we put on last year were truly some of the most ecstatic and electrifying gigs I think we've ever experienced, this band have a way of fixating your brain (in a good way!).

ARRINGTON DE DIONYSO
Arrington de Dionyso of Olympia, Washington uses
performance as a vehicle for driving through the nameless territories held
between surrealist automatism, shamanic seance, and the folk imagery of rock
and roll. After living in Chicago, Arkansas, and Spokane, Arrington moved to Olympia in
1992 to attend the Evergreen State College, where he studied Ethnomusicology,
Music Therapy, and Butoh dance theater. In 1995 he founded the avant-rock group
Old Time Relijun, which has since
toured and recorded throughout the US, Europe, and Israel, and has released eight
albums on the K Records label from Olympia, enthralling audiences with an
approach to performance described as deep hermetic practice and/or "some
fuckin' scary shit" by
critics in the know.

As a solo artist, Arrington performs on the bass clarinet, jaw harps, and
his voice with a distinctly multiphonic ability inspired by Tuvan
throatsinging and the ecclesiastics of Albert Ayler and Don Van Vliet.
Pushing the envelope between musicality and pure energy, between shamanic
ecstacy and lunacy, he enwraps rooms with resonant sound. His devotion to bringing
traditional Tuvan musics into an experimental music context has been acknowledged
by
Tran Quan Hai, the famous ethnomusicologist and the world's leading expert on
throatsinging. Arrington's live performance is utterly compelling and if you want to over indulge with free improvised vocalisation, remember we are doing a workshop with Arrington the day after this show, very limited places, details below.

IGNATZ
George Herriman created Ignatz in 1910. It was a vicious mouse in the
comic Krazy Kat. Ignatz' favourite occupation was throwing bricks at
Krazy Kat's head, who thought it was a love declaration from the mouse. The Brussels based artist Bram Devens uses Ignatz as his alter-ego for
his own pile of bricks. Acoustic songs wrapped with effects and driven
by improvisation and spontaneousness. Stunning rootsfolk, but played by a lost and unworldly creature. His
sound builds further upon his debut album, with the difference that on
one of the six tracks he doesn’t use any effects. He even sings and
talks more and creates his own musical world around it. In the meantime
he has become musical partners with Paul Labreque (Sunburned Hand of
the Man) and Silverster Anfgang (Belgium), but still proves that his
solo work towers above his other collaborations. New album II is the affirmation
of his talent, check it out on Kraak. Future weird Belgium!!

ASTRAL SOCIAL CLUB
Astral Social Club documents Neil Campbell of Vibracathedral
Orchestra's investigations into the more tranced regions of free
electronic drone, Astral Social Club bundles a clutch of monolithic
cloud formations that seem to just hover in mid-air, vibrating with
subtle white-light energies. There are drones and there are DRONES and Campbell works his way through a few of the more elementally
powerful static wave forms recently formulated by humans. Expect shrieking feedback, whooping microphone loops and CD manipulation!

TALIBAM!
Talibam! is Matt Mottel (Awesome Colour, Shadowmaps, Syntony) on synthesizer and Kevin Shea (of BARR and Storm and Stress)
on drums. The band have a brand of shitstorm skronk grounded in intelligent dynamic group exchange; spastic, impossibly octopoidal drum splatter and impenetrable stuttering free jazz soundscapes burdgeon. Above
the tangled percussive squall, the synth battles the silence, fast becoming a knock down drag out battle to the death. Too jazz for noise, too noise for jazz, Talibam! have arrived!

RAMESES III

Rameses III are Spencer Grady (guitars, noises), Steve Lewis (guitars,
percussion), and Daniel Freeman (keyboards, processing). Rameses III specialise in a dreamy yet disconcerting ambient sound that pulsates and probes as much as it soothes. They have performed with Jack Rose, David Grubbs, Christina Carter,
Fursaxa, The Album Leaf, James Blackshaw and Sir Richard Bishop and their latest album 'Matanuska' came out late last year on the american label The Music Fellowship.
The band's new EP is due out early this year on Important Records.
