Rachel Sermanni celebrates the release of her first album 'Under Mountains' with a special show at Bush Hall.
For those of you new to 20-year-old Scottish singer-songwriter Rachel Sermanni, she's a storyteller with a voice that packs an almighty punch with her earthy folk melodies and dextrous fingerpicking.
Her hometown of Carrbridge ¬ with its backdrop of mountains and lochs in the heart of the Highlands¬ is rife with creative potential and combined with Rachel's traditional folk lineage has had great influence on this collection of songs. Rachel self-released her debut 'Black Currents' EP, to critical and peer acclaim at the start of the year. Elbow frontman, and BBC 6Music presenter, Guy Garvey said 'Really really something special. She's amazing. Listen to her voice. Quite astonishing'. The EP went straight to No.1 in the Coalition Singles Charts where it stayed for two weeks. Rachel's wit and natural affinity with any audience somehow belie her young age and have led to support slots and tours with the likes of Elvis Costello, Ron Sexsmith, Fink, John Grant and Michael Kiwanuka.
Her new album 'Under Mountains' has been produced by marvel Ian Grimble (Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Manic Street Preachers), and showcases Rachels unique talent through an album which at once conjures up a kaleidoscopic reverie of sights and sounds.
Laura J Martin will be opening the night: 'Laura J Martin is one of the freshest dudes out there....musically gifted, addictive and sodding brave please make sure you buy her records and most importantly see her live!' - Rob Da Bank
