Playwright/artist/filmmaker Philip Ridley (The Krays) and Hollywood star Viggo Mortensen first made an impact with these surreal, dream-like cult classics. In one film, a child's far-from-idyllic rural existence is shattered by the realisation a vampire may be preying the flat cornfields and might be out for his brother next. In the next, a sheltered young man escapes his Christian fundamentalist upbringing, but unexpected feelings of desire drive him into a psychotically explosive rage. Exploding frogs, giant silver shoes, killers in black Cadillacs, fetus angels, devils wrapped in barbed wire... It's all part of the American Dream. The Reflecting Skin co-stars Lindsay Duncan, and The Passion Of Darkly Noon also features early lead performances by Brendan Fraser and Ashley Judd. Philip Ridley will join us to answer questions about these underrated, rarely-screened gems, both criminally unavailable on UK DVD.
