FILM CLUB: MAKE YOUR OWN DAMN ART, w/ Bob & Roberta Smith, with director John Rogers Q&A, part of SCALA BEYOND and a chance to bring your own damn art to exhibit at Sugar House Studios on the night.

This a documentary about the artist Bob & Roberta Smith, in reality one person called Patrick Brill who has become renowned for his humorous, opinionated, polemical art works. He occupies a unique position in the art world as an outsider who is a Trustee of the Tate Gallery, an artist whose work is found in The Guardian and major galleries but also in the small unheralded spaces, and often works in a shed in his garden in Leytonstone. What distinguishes Bob from the mainstream contemporary art world is his commitment to the idea that art is a vital part of democracy, and that art itself must be democratic. The film follows Bob over 3 years providing a unique insight into one of Britain’s most important artists at work, reflecting on art and the role it plays in society today.

Bob & Roberta Smith invites you to bring along Your Own Damn Art to the screening creating a pop-up Leytonstone Centre for Contemporary Art in Stratford for one night only. Bring your paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs and other art works to add to the infamous LCCA.
