DRIVER DRIVE FASTER
http://www.driverdrivefaster.com/
Driver Drive Faster hail from surburban Manchester - Chorlton-cum-Hardy (birthplace of Dangermouse and Count Duckula) if we're being precise - although you couldn't necessarily tell. Their masterful debut album Open House presents a lush, layered sound that exists somewhere between Americana and spectral indie rock: think Mercury Rev's Deserter's Songs for a new generation. It's crafted song-writing at its best, hinging on stirring chord sequences and moments of fragile beauty. Formerly called Polytechnic, Driver Drive Faster takes you places you never knew you wanted to go but don't then want to leave once you arrive, their songs strange and beautiful, technically brilliant with sugar sweet melodies. "A review described us as 'misfits'", says singer/guitarist Dylan Giles. "We took it as a compliment."
THE LIFTMEN
http://liftmen.wordpress.com/
Formed in the mid-noughties in (ahem!) an industrial lift, The Liftmen have been fixtures of Bristol's musical subterranea ever since, nurturing their artful and lyrically elusive song constructs for guitar/bass/drum/voice. There are echoes throughout of those fertile times when punk's brusque energy found its way to more subtle timbres via bands like Gang Of Four, The Bush Tetras and Josef K, while at points an almost jazzy serenity descends recalling the Chicago school of the nineties ... yet just as often this is gleefully ruptured by fuzzed-out motorik detours and Deerhoofian thrusts into sonic overdrive. It is those moments that are gloriously expanded upon in their blistering live shows, where they are often joined by fellow Bristolian SJ Esau on sundry electronic devices.
HALO HALO
http://halohalomixmix.blogspot.co.uk/
Don't let yourself be confused by the definition in your Oxford Dictionary. Halo Halo does not stand for the light that hovers above a sacred person's head, it's a Tagalog word for Mix, or as Halo Halo like to call themselves, a multi-coloured pudding.
A pudding rich in eclectic and interesting sounds and a generous dose of fun.
SLUSHY GUTS
http://slushyguts.bandcamp.com/
'Former noise guru/illustrator Stephen Vs Cosmos has stripped back the viscera and given something completely of himself with Slushy Guts. Recordings so intimate you can here every wisp slip from his lips, these are spidery, spectral songs illustrated with surreal moments from a life well lived. the virtuoso guitar playing recalls a more spacial John Fahey or Jim O'Rourke, while the glacial darkness has moments of US heroes the for carnation. lovingly hand-made and illustrated, these are touching little gems.' - ROUGH TRADE
