STATE OF EMERGENCY
As a writer and producer, Steve Marshall's work with Lee "Scratch" Perry, Keith Richards and George Clinton earned him Grammy nominations in 2008 and 2011. Now Scratch's English protege strikes out with his own versatile band backed by some Top flight musicians.
Reuben "Sleepy" White (Drums) has backed Eric Clapton, The Doobie Brothers, Alton Ellis, Laurel Aitken, Desmond Dekker, The Marvels, and Dandy Livingstone, to name but a few. A stunning drummer with true feeling and originality.
Elroy "Spoonface" Powell (Vocals) - "Spoonface", the voice behind club anthem "Hey Girl" had his first taste of international recording success as part of Black Legend. Their reworking of the Barry White classic "You See the Trouble with Me" reached No. 1 in the UK and sold over 2 million copies. Showcased as a presenter on MTV and Trouble TV's "Freakin' Famous", his versatility as an entertainer is confirmed. Collaborations include Freq. Nasty, Lil John, Witty Boy, Toddla T, Ill Logic & Raff, High Contrast, Omar, Janet Kay, and many more.
Tempo O'Neil (Vocals) - Originally an MC and singer, notably with Saxon Sound System, Tempo has broken the mould with his versatility, covering the whole spectrum from reggae to hip hop, jazz-funk, soul and RnB, rare groove, acid house, house, ambient, techno, UK garage, jungle, breakbeat and northern soul. Credits include Loose Ends, Tuff Jam, Sanchez, Pinchers, Jack Ruby, Marshall Jefferson and Alienfunk Movement.
Nick Gilmore (Keys) - A versatile keyboard player who grew up listening to and playing an eclectic mix of music, before eventually taking a formal education in jazz performance. Most notably a member of the contemporary pop band Digress (made up from the cast of the hit West-End show, Stomp).
"...voices like his deserve the respect, because the music is so uplifting and full of the whole range of ingredients." Bob Jones, Blues & Soul Magazine
"...the abundance of natural soul is undeniable." Bill Friskics-Warren, Washington Post
"Marshall's excitingly layered, infectious music remains a sensory pleasure." Donald Hutera, The Times.
