PLAYHARD celebrates 2012 at this event with some lively recommendations!

R O M A N C E - In the short time of its existence R O M A N C E has covered much ground, a Japanese album release and mini tour, 'Another Place' single release, singing to Fiction Records and touring with The Cult. They spent summer 2012 in residence at The George Tavern, an East London 18th century tavern sharing the same block work, and standing on the original site of the Halfway House of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales fame. Gigs for HMV Next Big Thing, The Great Escape, Camden Crawl and supporting Kate Nash has only swelled their reputation. 'Dance with the Devil' / 'Invincible' is out now on Fiction Records. http://isthisromance.co.uk

The Dogbones - "... join the dots between pure punk and sheer showbiz, and make a glorious racket in the process ... exactly the way rock 'n' roll bands should be." (Nemesis To Go), A primal, sneering, garage punk animal chewing on a candy cane bone of pop with enough catchy choruses to choke a pig. Buzzsaw guitar, two drummers and a girl with ants in her pants. This band is LOUD. Recommended viewing, to say the very least; "Must see live act" (Metal Hammer)

"Theyre brilliant, obviously." - Classic Rock. "Snarling with a raw punk fury yet tempered with hum along melodies" - Rock Sound, "Seductively scuzzy drum heavy mix of ramshackle voodoo rock" - Independent on Sunday. "The Dogbones are far from namby-pamby grunge revivalists. Maximalist rhythms and ear-bending martial noise puts them in a new stratosphere." - Dele Fadele, NME
"The Dogbones create a chaotic rocket that will blast you into another dimension" - Vive Le Rock

The Tapestry - "If there was ever a band to fall instantly in love with, it is The Tapestry! ... "The band have sold out Night and Day in Manchester, have a front man called Liam, and name Pixies, Pavement, The Clash and Television as influences ...got your attention yet ?" (John Robb, Louder Than War). This new, self labelled "Dirty Garage Pop" band released their debut single 'Rode Your Luck, / 'Another Century'' (Tapestry Records 001) earlier this year and haven't looked back. They have since gone from strength to strength, gaining an army for fans in every town they play. Second single 'Take Turns' was "5/5 Single of the month" for Manchester Music who said "post-Clash guitar chops and anthems to kill for... ...an astounding, outstanding call to arms from the Manchester underground". On a roll, they have recently supported Pete Doherty,!
The View, Little Barrie, Sound of Guns . 2013 promises to be very good indeed. https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Tapestry/118675874820563

FC-20 (an instrument for alcohol screening) hail from Camden and bring the party with their uniquely mixed n mashed up electro rock, ska and rap. This is twisted music for a twisted world. Heavily redolent of legendary streetwise outfits like The Blockheads, Clash, Madness and The Streets, they also bear a passing resemblance to 90's rave-rock groovers, Happy Mondays. The vibe is not disimilar-bags of attitude, natty lines, choppy guitars, wah-wah pedals, woozy keys and spacey beats. Having already supported The Rifles, at various gigs including The Roundhouse, it's perhaps no surprise to hear they too are determinedly counter to the daily drudge and grind of the nine to five rat-trap. They do things at their own pace and in their own sweet way. Like their club, Out Of The Shadows. Simon Webb does indeed sound like an argument between Strummer and Skinner. But the joy is in hearing the interplay between his half spoken diatribes and the rollicking counter- w!
eight of A Prid who toasts it all along from the sidelines. Dubby, dirty and lowdown, tales of wasted days and big nights out with dodgy characters are amusing as they are bracing. Are you feeling a little bit partial? http://www.fc-20.com

The Spitfires
"One of the most exciting prospects to come out of 2012's youth inspired mod scene." (Louder Than War). The Spitfires are a Watford trio whose debut single 'Spark To Start' / 'Sirens' is a call to arms that is blasting away cobwebs with guitars. "On a par with The Clash and The Ruts" (Zani)
They've already got the necessary seeds of a fan base that they mean something too. As Our Generation zine points out; "The industry spies on suburban cries - they need a spark to start some trend", spits disdain at the circus talent shows and manufactured bands. The sound of The Spitfires thankfully obliterates those media, created pathetic ideals and notions, creating a a new and walcome alternative for those that year for their music real, fast, vibrate and extolling the unabridged dangers of our youth!".
Fresh from supporting Bruce Foxton of The Jam on tour, this, their end of year show will be celebrated with their usual intensity. http://facebook.com/thespitfiresuk

The Midnight Barbers - They say; "We like people like Iggy Pop, Steve Albini, the White Stripes. not just for the music they made/make but because of their reasons behind it. music doesn't have to be pretty or nice. it should be natural. sometimes it should be a kick in the head. we're a live band. we LOVE playing live. we want it to be an experience as much as it is a performance. we don't know how we're going to play our music until we've played it. it makes things fun. this isn't something to be preserved, it's meant to be a moment in time." Reviews say; "The single most exciting thing to happen to alt.blues since Son of Dave bought a loop pedal." "I implore that you go and see them live wherever you can." "The 'Barbers' real strength lies in their live performance, which not only does a handy job of showcasing their ability as musicians, it really for me captures a real energy and love for the noise and the bombast of roc!
k music which is very difficult not to share if you have any love for it." " The Midnight Barbers (9/10) were one such hidden gem. ...the raw energy of Jon Spencer crashing into an early Doors experience." Bang.https://www.facebook.com/themidnightbarbers

PLAYHARD "If you wanna go to the best gig in the UK.. its PLAYHARD" (GotSeen TV).

Launched at the International Live Music Conference in March, Playhard celebrates its first year as a monthly gathering musicians, industry, media and 48 hour party people (seriously, on more than one occasion!). It's inclusive rock n roll vibe has represented at this year's Edinburgh Festival, City Showcase Festival and hosted the VIP bar at Leyton Orient and the Soccer Dome for Soccer Six.

"Perfect night out for those who like their beer cold, their music loud, and their tights laddered. I discovered one of my favourite new bands at Playhard" (Music Vice).

With artists from every bill raising their profile and the amount of connecting that goes on, it has organically grown without a marketing and advertising budget.

"Playhard gives the opportunity for new bands to become successful and meet new people". (Jon Brookes, The Charlatans)

Alongside packing venues (selling out on several occasions) word of mouth and net has earned over a quarter million website hitts so far @playhardgigs

"Committed to breaking new bands, celebrating existing ones and giving artists a platform to play. " (Orange - Fun Finder)

2013 look out.
