We are very pleased to welcome Rue Royale to Manchester this February, for a headline show at The Castle, Manchester
Driven in every sense of the word, Ruth and Brookln Dekker have amassed 80,000 miles on the road in Europe alone since the release of their first eponymously-titled LP in 2008.
Meanwhile, without the backing of a label or manager, between tours the couple has rustled up a cottage industry at their cozy Nottingham home. Together they've printed, snipped, sewed and stuffed 7,500 Rue Royale CDs, including 500 pre-orders for 'Guide To An Escape' - carving out a tunnel in the tarmac to their local Post Office.
Fans have also been treated to hand-made Rue Royale knitted goods (how many groups do you know who sport hot water-bottle covers on their merch stand?), bags and clothes.
Not bad for a husband and wife songwriting team who, then living in Chicago, only started performing together five years ago, inspired by the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Radiohead, Grandaddy, John Martyn, Jose
Gonzalez and Elbow.
In addition, we will be joined by the very talented Annie Dressner as support.
Recently moving from her hometown of New York City to the UK, singer-songwriter Annie Dressner has earned early raves for her "passionate, conversational awkwardness," and for the "twilight poignancy" found on her confident, quirky debut CD "Strangers Who Knew Each Other's Names." Filled with "a majestic loneliness," Dressner's poignant songs are delivered with such conversational ease, it often seems as if she is reading from an intimate letter or a book, set to music. Her straightforward lyrical style, sharp ear for wordplay and crisp, lilting vocals offer listeners a front-row seat to her stories, as they take shape above the understated music.
While in New York, Annie played a variety of clubs and bars since 2009, including Rockwood Music Hall, The Living Room, The Bitter End and Brooklyn's Jalopy. Since arriving in the UK, Annie has played at venues & Festivals throughout England, such as the Cluny2, O2 Academy Islington, Norwich Arts Centre, Night & Day, Secret Garden Party, Deer Shed, Cambridge Folk Festival, and has opened for Juan Zelada, Lucy Wainwright Roche & Fossil Collective.
And finally, local band Troubadour's Grave will take to the stage with their delicate and haunting vocals, accompanied by lightly plucked guitars and soft strings.
