London Live Music Producers The Local present a host of intriguing bands in a three day mini-festival of modern day existential song writing. This show wraps up the series with Meursault, Sons of Noel and Adrian and Woodpecker Wooliams.
Meursault are variously categorised as folktronica, alternative rock and indie folk. A shifting interplay of electronic and traditional instruments, the songs themselves are based on the themes of separation and estrangement. The name of the band is a reference to the main character of L’Etranger, the famous existentialist novel by Albert Camus.
Selfless creative interdependence is at the heart of Willkommen Collective founders Sons of Noel and Adrian. With their latest album Knots they have departed from their folk roots, which lead them to tour twice with Mumford & Sons, to explore influences rooted in Chicago’s pre-millennial post-rock, jazz and avant-pop.
Woodpecker Wooliams, also Brightonian, is "Creepy, but in a good way." The Guardian, New Band of the Day. A keeper of bees, all round naturophile and lover of Russian Dolls, Woodpecker Wooliams, aka singer-songwriter Gemma Williams, has an unnerving, sweet tremolo voice. Her songs are unusual, modern and intriguing. Originally comprised of vocals and harp, the odd bell, chime and whistle they have more recently begun to encompass an altogether fuller, electronic, droney sound.
