Event information

MY SAD CAPTAINS
My Sad Captains are a London-based quintet who sound like Pavement getting a pop overhaul, expanding on the standard guitar line-up by adding various other instruments, such as violin, melodica, keyboard, glockenspiel and samples. They produce an american alt-pop sound, touched with country lashes and occasional fiery noise outbursts. They have supported the likes of Tilly and the Wall, Broken Family Band and Rumblestrips. They have also been praised by NME and The Fly, played by Steve Lamacq, Gideon Coe and Huw Stephens, and featured on Nic Harcourt's KCRW show 'Morning Becomes Eclectic'. Their debut single “Bad Decisions” was released on Fortuna POP! earlier this year.
“Finding their place amongst the melodic low-fi sound of bands such as Grandaddy and Pavement, and blending this with the more outlandish electronic sound of Four Tet and The Postal Service, the Captains bring us an individual sound that seems not to praise angular hair cuts and impotence-inducing tight jeans.” (IndieWorkshop)

KELMAN
London-based 3 piece influenced by The Velvet Underground, New Order, Tindersticks, Galaxie 500, Smog and The Go-Betweens. Formed from the ashes of the hotly-tipped Baptiste, their debut single, The Happiest Man Alive, was released on their own Liner Records label in Autumn of 2005, followed by a second single, The Heart Is A Useless Ally, and an album Loneliness Has Kept Us Alive in 2006. The band will contribute their cover of the Go-Between’s “Apology Accepted” to a forthcoming Grant McLennan tribute album.
“Fine, regret-stained, swimmily gorgeous pop" (Kittenpainting)

ELECTRICITY IN OUR HOMES
With only a handful of shows to their name Electricity In Our Homes are already something special. Taking their cue from bands such as Josef K they button their shirts up to the top to play jerky, melodic post-punk with a DIY aesthetic.
“Electricity In Our Homes share the spirit of originality, creativity and promise of the Postcard era” (Ritifists Fanzine)

BROTHER FRANCISCO Brother Francisco formed in late 2005 and feature ex-members of Black Neilson, Vermont and Wintergreen. They're a "guitar trio", and they play rock. "They are marvellous, whipping up woozy, buzzing, falling sideways songs that panfry the more sunstruck elements of Dinosaur Jnr and The Meat Puppets (wiggy sounds of deserts full of weirdly shaped cacti), then pour in lashings of motorik drone straight from the jar labelled \'Jenny Ondioline\'\" (Kittenpainting) http://www.brotherfrancisco.com/ http://www.myspace.com/brotherfrancisco

plus Fortuna POP! DJs playing indiepop, punk rock, 60s psych and northern soul
