FREEDOM: Pussy Riot Punk Prayer Commemoration Concert

SHATTERJAPAN and POPULAR are holding a special non-profit event "FREEDOM: Pussy Riot Punk Prayer Commemoration Concert" on Sunday 24 February (6-11pm) at London's Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen.

On 21 February 2012, members of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot performed a "punk prayer" in a Moscow church for which they were arrested, detained for several months and eventually sentenced on 17 August 2012 to 2 years imprisonment. With two of the three members remaining imprisoned, SHATTERJAPAN and POPULAR have collaborated to bring you a whole evening of entertainment, including people from the international music, film and political worlds, to commemorate the 1 year anniversary of the punk prayer performance and to celebrate freedom of expression.

The lineup will include at least three live music acts, including Scotland's MIDAS FALL, Canada's AU PALAIS, London's SKINNY GIRL DIET and CAT BEAR TREE, as well as DJ sets from CHVRCHES, KARIN PARK, NEUROTIC MASS MOVEMENT, THE VOYEURIST and SHEEN, with speeches from KERRY MCCARTHY MP for Bristol East and shadow minister for human rights, Oscar-nominated MIKE LERNER who produced and directed the 2013 Sundance award-winning documentary PUSSY RIOT - A PUNK PRAYER, and former BBC Russian Service editor and human rights advocate MASHA KARP.
