The And The Winner Is..? series of events kicks off with a discussion and investigation into architectural competitions.
A key method for a client to source diverse architectural ideas and solutions (and for architects themselves to work through such), or a burden for practices that are already overworked and underpaid, offering no clear promise of reward?
Can competitions be run to the benefit of every stakeholder, in the name of materialising architectural quality and encouraging clients to take greater risks? Or is the process fundamentally immoral, and an agent of the glossy domination of architectural renderings and statement envelopes?
An international panel of key-players from the culture of architectural competitions will present their position and investigate these issues:
Featuring:
- Dr. Nina Berre, Director of Architecture, National Museum, Oslo, Norway
- Richard Brindley, Executive Director, Professional Services, RIBA
- Silvia Forlati, Founding Member at Wonderland, Principal at Share architects
- Moira Gemmill, Director of Projects, Design and Estate, Victoria & Albert Museum
- Malcom Reading, Founder and Chairman at Malcom Reading Consultans
- Didier Rebois, Secretary General of Europan
