Event information

It is with enormous pleasure and excitement that we welcome one of our favourite US bands - The Growlers - to Manchester's Soup Kitchen for what will surely be a paradise of skiffle psychedelia and druggy surf ruin.

Formed in 2006 in Dana Beach, California and recently signed to UK label FatCat Records, The Growlers mix fuzzy surf and sexy psychedelia with hypnotic melodies and tripped out lyrics to create a sound that has become The Growlers' own brand of Beach Goth. They make you feel like the Wild West sun is beating down on your soft neck while the peyote cactus you just ate starts sizzling away in your tummy, making the colours come alive and the feeling of love in your heart seep into your brain.

Sizzling support comes from...

Wigan's garage punk heros Brown Brogues, a band that have been blowing minds since 2009 and never fail to make a cold night even colder.

We are also very VERY excited to welcome Glasgow's The Yawns to join the show. They make addictive surfy garage and it's unbelievable live so don't be a slacker, get down early.

This needs to be lapped up so come and join us as we drink from the milk dish, there's more than enough for everyone.

Some Growler love...

"The Archetype of a Rock and Roll band." - Devendra Banhart

"Long simmering in the city's underground, THE GROWLERS recently gained a devoted fan base that extends beyond the rock club circuit....the band is killer live, suggesting a combination of surf-rock, psycho-billy and barroom rock." - LA Times

"Surely becoming the band to see for anybody and everybody...The Growlers will rule the universe."
- The World Famous KROQ

"If we were in England and they were a British group, they'd be on the cover of NME as one of the up-and-coming bands...it's a band that is going to do some damage."
- LA Times

"Noise bandits who travel the country in a patched-together schoolbus - if that's not enough of an easy sell, their explosive live performances will definitely do the trick. They're basically the audio equivalent of sneaking out of your parents house as a teenager, hijacking a motorcycle, and racing to a house party in the middle of nowhere."
- 'Sup Magazine

"The members of the Growlers could be any one of Old Dirty Bastard's illegitimate children. They are hallucinogen personified, and could potentially be responsible for ending racism forever, at best they'll be able to cure Klinefelter's syndrome."
- Jelly NYC

"If David Lynch were to film a Scooby-Doo movie, The Growlers would have to do the soundtrack."
- Knoxville News Sentinel
