Tell Me What to Do Presents...
A night of eclectic and slightly sinister music, featuring Liberez, Lost Harbours, Matawan and Kostoglotov.
Liberez: 'Sane Men Surround' is the second album to emerge from Liberez, from the wilds of Southend-on-Sea. It is a record that lurches around Britain's industrial past, and glares at its future. This is not the South-East of organised sport or wine-tasting, but of reduced food that goes out of service at midnight. It isn't even the bobble-hatted embers of London's fading media empire love-ins. It is an album with a brain and a heart, evoking the rumbling lorries of Essex, its scared sober marshlands, and peace riddled battlegrounds.
Lost Harbours: A two-piece experimental folk duo from Southend on Sea; influenced by an eclectic array of sources from 60's psych folk and modern composition to musique concrete and drone. Described by Julian Cope as 'Stately folk and ambient imbalance'
Matawan: Focusing heavily on textural relationships, Matawan's music seeks to portray an aural journey that often treads a fine line between brooding density and compelling melody.
Specifically choosing to use electric guitars as their primary medium, the band's compositions vary organically with each performance, which helps to give Matawan their own sense of freedom.
Kostoglotov: His music is a slow burning, blurry, post-ambient psychedelia of guitar and synthesizer drones that are melded to produce an electronic soundworld filled with colour. (Wonderful Wooden Reasons)
'Good for a burned forebrain.' Warren Ellis
'The tape takes us on some journey, for despite remaining fairly downbeat and introspective throughout, it’s an immensely pleasurable listening experience. If you love cassette releases, grab this now, to these ears it’s an early contender for tape of the year.' A Closer Listen
A funk twit DJ will be playing the usual mix of Rebecca Black Metal through the evening.
