SPITZ PRESENTS: GREAT NIGHT IN THE SPITZ

0LONDON: Spitz
PThursday 27th September, 2007
N7:00pm

Event information

‘A Great Night In The Spitz’ the crème of London’s musicians plus some very special guests.

With a nod in the direction of Art Kane's 1958 photograph of New York jazz greats ‘A Great Day In Harlem’, The Spitz celebrates 11 incredible years at the heart of London’s live music scene with A Great Night In The Spitz. Like Kane, we will be immortalising the event with a group photo of the performers, shot on our fire escape.

The group photo pays homage to Art Kane’s photo and will serve as a marker to pinpoint the end of an era, and the start of a new beginning for The Spitz.

The evening will feature two floors of the best jazz, blues and acoustic. Some of the finest musicians to have performed at The Spitz have been invited to play. The Spitz Jazz Collective featuring Miles Danso and Alan Weekes, London’s longest running residency, will be hosting the evening and co-ordinating slots.

Upstairs in the venue, there will be a rolling improvised jazz jam with The Spitz Jazz Collective at its core. Seb Rochford’s band, featuring Pete Wareham and Tom Herbert (Polar Bear and Acoustic Ladyland), will be performing, as will ex Acid Jazzer and Afro-centric saxophonist Bukky Leo. A wild set from sax and trumpet player Terry Edwards. Multi-instrumentalist and master bass and tabla player Shri has promised to turn up with his flute in his back pocket, plus we have some very special guests playing, friends of The Spitz who have supported us over the years, who we are unable to announce as they’d sell the night out within minutes on their own!

In the bistro, the crème of London’s acoustic, folk and blues musicians perform alongside some of the extrovert characters that have found a home from home on stage at The Spitz. Sandy Dillon headlines with her distinctive jazz-punk western blues. The line up includes Pete Molinari and Monc. Parkbench DJs.

Further acts on both floors to be announced.
