READING MENCAP - BACKGROUND

Reading Mencap is an organisation which provides information, support and services for the families and carers of children and adults with learning disabilities and difficulties (LDD) and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in the Reading local authority area. Reading Mencap is affiliated to the national charity Royal Mencap, but receives no financial support from them. Although the charity is small, it has provided local services for 50 years with information and support; including their one-to-one Family Support service. They currently have about 400 members although reach out to more people with their information service and events. They also run a range of weekly clubs and events for children and adults across a spectrum of learning disabilities and ages, and social and informative events for carers.
