Six By Seven are a Nottingham, England based rock band who formed in 1996, specialising in a brand of space-rock that fused the drones, propulsiveness and washes of noise of krautrock with the abrasiveness of punk. They have released six albums, along with several compilations of studio offcuts and live performances. Arriving at a time of stagnating but popular Britpop and Britrock, they were unique not only in sound but also in utilising a saxophonist for texture and in Sam Hempton choosing to attack his guitar strings with a drumstick instead of a plectrum.

Although Six By Seven were based in Nottingham, none of them came from Nottingham. They initially gigged under the name "Friends Of..." in 1992 while they were at college. After graduating, the band headed for Germany and spent several months playing and living in a one bedroom flat and travelling with a car and a caravan. After abandoning their equipment and returning home individually the band found themselves back together again and began rehearsing and writing new songs which led to the release of their first single 'European Me' which the NME described as one of the greatest début singles of all time. six.byseven released their first album in May 1998 to widespread critical acclaim. Since this time the band have released 6 official albums, recorded 5 Peel sessions and toured extensively. Their highest commercial success was reaching number 46 with the single 'IOU Love' and a top 60 album with 'The way I Feel today'. Mark Beaumont in the NME proclaimed the band as being the best act at Glastonbury 2008. The band split up in November '08. In January '09 a collection of demos picked from the 50 or so written for the comeback album which was to become 'Just Because I'm Paranoid' was made available as a download at www.sixbyseven.co.uk.

In late 2011 Chris Olley released 2 tracks under the guise of The Death Of Six By Seven via http:/sixbyseven.bandcamp.com. In January 2012 the Death Of Six By Seven album was released via the Bandcamp page. It was described as "a sombre droney melodic cosmic album of suburban hymns, Chris Olley's answer to Springsteen's Nebraska", and garned positive reviews. The album was initially released as a limited run, and quickly sold out due to demand. More copies were then made available.

Five Death Of Six By Seven 'demo' EPs were released during the course of 2012, with a view to fans choosing which tracks to be rerecorded and released as the second Death Of Six By Seven album.
In May 2012 The Death Of Six By Seven played their first gig at The Maze in Nottingham, followed by one in June in London. The line-up featured Six By Seven members Chris Olley, James FLower and Pete Stevenson, as well as former Locus guitarist, Martin Cooper.

In September 2012 it was announced that ex Placebo drummer, Steve Hewitt, had joined the fold, and that they would be going into the studio to begin recording a new album as Six By Seven.

In January 2013 Chris Olley advised it wouldn't be possible for fans to select which Death Of Six By Seven demo tracks to re-record after all. The new line-up of Six By Seven rehearsed over 20 of the tracks and decided they would instead be be choosing which tracks to feature on their new album. Recording of the new album began at the end of January 2013 at Moles Studio in Bath.

In February 2013, recording of the new Six By Seven album, produced by Dan Austin (who has also worked with Doves, Massive Attack, Oceansize and The Cooper Temple Clause), was completed and was then mastered in LA.

In March 2013 Six By Seven made new tracks 'Truce' and 'Sympathy' available to stream via https://soundcloud.com/sixbysevensoundcloud . It was also announced that Six By Seven would be playing their first gig with the new lineup at The Water Rats in London on the 4th of April.
The release date of the new album, entitled 'Love And Peace And Sympathy', is 10th of June 2013.
