Jan Jongert, co-founder and Head of Research at Superuse Studios, will present the InsideFlows project and exhibition alongside his practice's ongoing and influential investigations into “superusing available flows and resources and connecting them into urban ecosystems,” and resource-based design.
Enaging deeply with closed-loop systems, design-led sustainable construction, and the Blue Economy, Superuse Studios (formerly known as 2012Architecten) have been at the forefront of rethinking our relationships with materials and resources for 15 years. Their expertise is embedded in four interlinked studios, dealing with research, architecture, design and materials.
The practice's work has ranged from designing the De Appel art centre's restaurant out of bits of Schiphol Airport and old offices, to creating a children's playground out of discarded wind-turbine blades. They’ve been featured on Brad Pitt’s e2 Design TV show, founded the influential online platform superuse.org, and have recently been developing a series of urban harvest maps, to connect designers and makers with the surplus of the city.
This evening lecture will launch the InsideFlows exhibition, which will be available to view throughout the day and evening.
The event will take place in the award-winning Skyroom, which is housed on The Architecture Foundation rooftop.
