New generation jazz stars in overlapping bands

Wakefield’s Matt Robinson has played for us many times. Since studying at The Royal Academy of Music he has achieved huge success, winning their top student award (Yamaha Jazz Scholar) when he graduated last year. He has also been working regularly with the best graduates from other Conservatoires around London. These bands represent those connections. Drummer Dave Hamblett uses some of the same musicians in Matt’s Band so a double presentation made sense.
All of them put the musicality of jazz above the contemporary trend towards noisy youth appeal – they play advanced well-written compositions and exciting jazz.
