THE GREAT INDOORS, The Winter Olympics' annual all-day celebration of bands, beer and burgers returns to the Brixton Windmill for its fourth fantastic year.
Boasting an international bill of the bands' musical heroes and best friends, alongside a massive dance party and a belly-busting free barbecue, The Great Indoors provides all the fun of a festival from the safety of your favourite pub, all for the price of a London pint.
***MARK GARDENER (RIDE)***
Mark Gardener is a bona-fide indie rock icon. As frontman and songwriter for Oxford four-piece Ride, Mark and his band were pioneers of the shoegaze movement and proper bloody pop stars too, leaving behind a dazzling run of flawless EPs and hit albums. They were f*cking brilliant live.
Since Ride disbanded in the wrong-thinking Britpop nineties, Mark has worked as a producer and solo artist as well as chalking up a string of notable collaborations with the likes of Robyn Guthrie (of The Cocteau Twins), Rinocerose and The Brian Jonestown Massacre. He will be playing a selection of songs from throughout his career at The Great Indoors, grown men will weep with joy.
***HER PARENTS***
Anglo-Icelandic upstarts Her Parents would like you to believe that "they are just a great bunch of guys playing some punk music". Made up of members of Internet Forever, Stairs to Korea and Dananananaykroyd they are much, much more than that, a clever, funny, righteously furious, gonzo glitch-punk racket. "Art Brutal" Pitchfork called them. New album 'Happy Birthday' is the best British rock record of the year and it comes in the album sleeve of the century. They are utterly unmissable live.
***THE WINTER OLYMPICS***
The WInter Olympics are the UK's biggest small band. Or possibly the UK's smallest big band. Debut album 'Profit and Loss' was, like Michael Jackson's Thriller, stuffed to the gills with seven radio-ready singles and million-dollar-looking videos. They have a no-budget arena-rock live show, a top secret studio complex, for God's sake they've even got their own plane(http://youtu.be/6UKP5dsQJJA). Unfortunately, they have had far more bass players than they have hits. Please go and see them. They will buy you a drink.
***DESPERATE JOURNALIST***
Desperate Journalist are a brilliant young band from London. Veering from cascading gothic anti-ballads to driving disco punk, theirs is a sound concerned with mood, melody and melodrama.
***CABIN (Norway)***
Unreconstituted classic rock and roll from Norway (via Canada and Belgium). Fjords and sorcery anyone?
***RAZMO***
Three drummers, one song, 45 minutes of experi-metal noise magick. Minds will be blown. Good luck everyone.
***DROP THE NEEDLE DJs (Dalston Superstore)***
This year The Great Indoors' famed microrave arena is curated by Dalston disco destroyers Drop the Needle. Expect big hip hop floor fillers, hands-in-the-air hedonist anthems and a massive f*cking glitter ball. COME ON!
***FREE BBQ***
Sausages, burgers, chicken, vegeburgers, vege-sausages, potato salad, three bean salad, spicy curly fries, buns. That sort of thing. FREE! And cooked for you by our expert chef.
***FREE CD***
Buy a ticket today and pick up a free copy of The Winter Olympics' seminal debut album 'Profit and Loss' on the door. Bargain.
