This little-known 1956 Czechoslovak film is one of the cornerstones of contemporary sci-fi cinema - its influence can be seen on both Star Trek and Kubrick’s 2001 among others. Adapted from Stanislaw Lem’s 1955 novel The Magellanic Cloud, it is now widely regarded as one of the best Eastern Bloc science fiction films of the era.
