Hot on the heels of a sell out Slaughtered Lamb show, the Scottish Album of the Year winner settles in for two nights at the Vortex, with special guests Alexis Taylor + The Local DJs on Saturday / Jack Cheshire on Sunday

RM HUBBERT has released two albums to date. The first of which was FIRST & LAST (Chemikal Underground, 2011), which comprises of 9 solo instrumental guitar pieces. Heavily influenced by flamenco rhythms and techniques, FIRST & LAST was written to help Hubby deal with the death of his parents and return of chronic depression. It's not as depressing as that last sentence may suggest.

THIRTEEN LOST & FOUND (Chemikal Underground 2012) was conceived as a way for Hubby to reconnect with old friends after losing touch over ten years. It features collaborations with many very talented Scottish musicians such as AIDAN MOFFAT (Arab Strap), EMMA POLLOCK (Delgados), ALASDAIR ROBERTS, LUKE SUTHERLAND (Long Fin Killie, Mogwai) and HANNA TUULIKKI (Nalle, Two Wings). The album was produced by ALEX KAPRANOS (Franz Ferdinand), a long time collaborator and friend.

The as yet to be announced third album for Chemikal Underground will be released on September 27th 2013 and comprises of five instrumental guitar pieces and five vocal songs exploring the idea of letting go, moving on and acceptance. More details to follow soon.

A prolific live performer, Hubby has released music under a variety of guises since 1993. It was EL HOMBRE TRAJEADO’s triptych of albums released between 1995 and 2005 though, that really put him on the musical map, earning swathes of critical acclaim and three Peel Sessions. He has gone on to support the likes of NICK CAVE, TORTOISE, MOGWAI, GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR, FRANZ FERDINAND and THE TWILIGHT SAD as well as touring extensively around the EU in his own right.

THIRTEEN LOST & FOUND won the SCOTTISH ALBUM OF THE YEAR AWARD in June 2013.

JACK CHESHIRE is an English singer-songwriter & musician. Releasing his third album LONG MIND HOTEL in 2013, he writes "…mildly psychedelic, quintessentially English…dreamlike & beautiful" music.

LONG MIND HOTEL was recorded at Sawmills Studios Cornwall. Situated up a tidal estuary, reached only by boat at high tide, it is Jack’s first studio album. The sessions spanned five days & nights last June, during a particularly cold ‘summer’ patch when it rained non-stop. Secretly glad for these conditions, Jack felt they complimented the record – you can even hear the remnants of a storm on ‘Revolving Doors’.

LONG MIND HOTEL also marks a decidedly stylistic change, due in no small part to all the other players being primarily jazz musicians.

The album owes a lot to their immense musicality. It is littered with improvised interludes, never indulgent, each song simultaneously and deliberately structured and arranged. There is an intensity to the work, possibly born of time constraints and tensions which arose, mainly around which takes to use (each one tended to differ). It lends the album great focus.

In many ways it is a ‘coming of age, a taking stock of life’s predicaments, limitations and neuroses’ album, taking in anaesthesia & a hospital stay (‘Postcard from Sedation’), unravelling the indulgences of drug taking (‘Long Mind Hotel’), social alienation (‘Into The Void’), aspiring to optimism (‘Heavenly Bodies’) and being in love (‘Moving In A Straight Line’).
