ROB DA BANK: "Laura J Martin is one of the freshest dudes out there....musically gifted, addictive and sodding brave please make sure you buy her records and most importantly see her live!'
MARC RILEY: "Laura J Martin just upped the ante in the lady flautist stakes. When she first came into my studio with Jonny (Euros Childs and Norman Blake) I expected her contribution to be some attractive pleasant brass flourishes. How wrong can one be? She looked like she was trying to wrestle the thing to the floor. She's no flautist - she's a FLUTE WRANGLER! Nothing short of brilliant. More Tull than Galway for sure... and she can sing like an angel and play the Mandolin too... that's why I don't like her. In fact I HATE her. I HATE LAURA J MARTIN... YOU HEAR ME!?"
THE SPECTATOR: "Martin was a revelation: captivating oozing talent and looking genuinely thrilled to be playing...prodigiously accomplished on the flute mandolin and piano...with a firecracker stage presence and an affable personality, her set was a showcase for an artist in bloom. Martin's future looks very bright indeed."
"Hangman Tree is a charming alt. slow-jam for a weird and lazy summer's day. Kind of like Architecture in Helsinki injected with good old-fashioned English eccentricity." Paul Rafferty, Hot Club De Paris
"From a strange planet far far away Laura J Martin travelled with her magical voice and flute - luckily for our Earth ears she chose to make our planet her home, sharing her fantastic cosmic sounds with us all." The Simonsound
"Watching her on stage, wielding her flute with the swiftness and precision of a warrior using a samurai sword, you can’t quite believe that something so light and delicate can beat its wings so fast. But she does, and we can only stand in awe." Amelias Magazine
"She's quite brilliant trilling and looping her voice and various instruments (such as mandolin, xylophone and flute) into an intriguing, delicately layered sound that may be unique; despite clear influence from Jethro Tull and Kate Bush, I’ve not seen a performer quite like her." For Folks Sake
"A story book forest of weird instruments and enticing sounds" (4*'s) - Q MAGAZINE
"These spry, gnomic songs echo Slapp Happy's downmarket Weimerbohemia or the inverterbrate oddness of The Raincoats" (4/5) - UNCUT
"A Brilliant Debut" - SUNDAY TIMES, BREAKING ACT
"Lithe and fluent, Martin's debut flutters like a flightier Joanna Newsom or a playful Kate Bush" - THE INDEPENDENT
"Even in a great week for albums, the debut from Laura J Martin shines" (4/5) - DAILY MIRROR
