ASBO Derek & Bandana Collective
Presented by: Spinningchilli Presents0 | BRIGHTON: The Prince Albert |

P | Thursday 12th June, 2014 |
N | 8:00pm |
The Shapes were formed in Leamington by Ben Browton (Seymour Bybuss) and Gareth Holder (AKA Brian Helicopter) in 1977, plus Tim Jee, Dave Gee and Steve Richards. They made punk-pop classics, played a lot by John Peel and recorded a session for him. After a spell on Terri Hooley's Good Vibrations label they split, reforming in 2008. Expect to hear old faves and 'We're Not Very Famous'/'Don't Play Tennis' from the Sofa Records closet (or maybe down the back of the sofa!). This summer tour coincides with 'More Songs for Sensible People' released on vinyl by Overground (copies available from the band at gigs) and the facsimile release of their 'Part of The Furniture' EP and 'Airline Disaster'/'Blastoff' on Madrid's Paramecium Records.
'A couple of years after the Pistols raged against the monarchy, unsophisticated provincial herberts such as the Shapes of Leamington Spa were making rather less hifalutin demands. "Not beans again!" yelps the lead singer on Wot's For Lunch Mum?, before suggesting: "How about coq au vin, asparagus and black beans?" ' - Will Hodgkinson, The Times, January 2014
