Celebrating 50 years of Radio Ballads
Presented by: Charles Parker Archive Trust0 | BIRMINGHAM: CBSO Centre |

N | 7:30pm |
The creators of two groundbreaking radio series fifty years apart come together in this concert. From 1957-64, the young Peggy Seeger joined the brilliant Ewan MacColl and Charles Parker, a radical programme maker from Birmingham, to create the legendary Radio Ballad series, the first to describe people's working lives in their own words. In 2006 six programmes in a similar style were created for radio, winning awards as its predecessor had done. This was followed by a one-off about the Miners' Strike, a series about the Olympics, and, under development, a further set about World War I. At this concert, Peggy Seeger, long a renowned singer-songwriter in her own right and still performing in her seventies, will be joined by Jez Lowe, one of the best singer-songwriters of this generation, and a principal contributor to the modern Radio Ballads.
