Celebrating the life of DJ John Peel (30th August 1939-25th October 2004) with a double headline show from The Cravats and Vic Godard & Subway Sect, support from The Fallen Leaves plus compere Lee Mcfadden.
Formed in 1977, The Cravats recorded four Peel sessions, aswell as two more when they morphed into The Very Things. Still fronted by The Shend, original sax player Svor Naan plus Viscount Biscuits, Joe 91 and Rampton Garstang.
"The Shend makes an engaging frontman, like a gigantic character out of a long lost black and white movie intoning his black humour laced songs of paranoia and confusion as the band continue their strange and off the wall trip around them building up the seething oddness"- John Robb, Louder Than War. 2011
Subway Sect first played at the 100 Club Punk Festival in 1976 and recorded two Peel sessions. Vic Godard (often named 'the greatest living Englishman' by former Fall member and DJ Marc Riley) continued making music throughout the decades. Vic and Subway Sect - Mark Braby, Kevin Younger, Yusuf B'layachi & Ian Holford (The Sexual Objects/Nectarine No.9) will be celebrating the release of '1979 Now' produced by Edwyn Collins, out on AED Records, 6th October.
West London garage group The Fallen Leaves, featuring former members of Subway Sect, started up the same year Peelie died and we're sure he would've loved them. They've made three LPs, gigged around the UK, Europe and USA. Don't miss them if you're a Billy Childish or Subway Sect fan.
