We are honoured that this brilliant Texas guitarist chooses to come back to the Haven Club every time he is on tour in the UK. He is a master of his craft who after 15 years of fronting John Mayall’s Blues Breakers is well and truly established on the international rock/blues circuit.
An archetypal top drawer Texas blues guitarist, Buddy Whittington has been part of the Dallas/Fort Worth music scene since he was 14, becoming a celebrated home town virtuoso playing to sell out crowds. In 1993 John Mayall asked Buddy to join to replace Coco Montoya in The Blues Breakers. He has brought a powerful new dimension to the Blues Breakers' sound on 10 albums: including John Mayall’s all star 70th Birthday Concert, and the award winning ‘In the Palace of the King’ CD.
As Buddy says, "I aim for that Les Paul-through-a-Marshall-tone that Eric refined in '66--it can't be topped! It's that perfect Gibson/Marshall 'thang' that we're all striving for!” And that’s exactly what Buddy plays – but Texas style, all big toned, stinging attacks, killer grooves, danceable shuffles – a real master of his craft.
