The Sleeping Years
Recently signed to Talitres Records in France, The Sleeping Years have released three EPs, ‘You and Me Against the World’, ‘Setting fire to sleepy towns’ and 'Clocks and clones'. Their debut album ‘We’re Becoming Islands One by One’ has only just been release this March and is already receiving praise and admiration, voted album of the week by Pop News. Dale Grundle founder of The Sleeping Years was born in Coleraine, Northern Ireland to an Irish father and a Scottish mother and started his first band Catchers while at school. Their first single ‘Cotton Dress’ came out on Setanta Records and became single of the week in Melody Maker. With an impressive list of tour experience supporting bands such as Pulp, Edwyn Collins, The Divine Comedy, Dr. John and Oasis Dale is a true veteran. Catchers recorded their second album ‘Stooping to Fit’ with Nick Drake’s arranger Robert Kirby, you can hear a bit of Drake’s mournful lyricism bleeding out of The Sleeping Years songs. This is to be the first appearance with a full band performing tracks from their most recent and acclaimed release.
The Guardian: 'his voice breaks exquisitely between hope and despair in songs that the acoustic guitar was invented for'
Time Out: 'engagingly mournful, melodic songcraft'
Junkboy
Having left their hometown of Southend on-Sea and taken up residence in Brighton and Hove in September 2006, brothers Mik and Rich Hanscomb have been making richly arranged, wistfully romantic music which effortlessly transcends their home-recorded origins yet stays true to the bedroom ideal of inwardly directed energies. Junkboy are set to release ‘Three’ by Enraptured Records and Cargo Records on February 18th 2008.
Wire magazine: "lushly evocative...lovingly arranged, pastoral jazz rock which...sounds like a bold attempt at evoking the unique atmosphere of (the Zombies') Odessey and Oracle"
Plan B: "beautiful harmonies and psychedelic country folk... near-perfect enough to almost restore the dreaded 'mellow' adjective to respectability"
Tea & Toast Band
The Tea & Toast Band started as one person Rob Bidder and a tape machine, now with a rotating cast of likeminded folks and friends their music is glittered with shakers, screeches and sometimes woofs and performances occasionally coloured by costuming. Pitched somewhere between no-fi and lo-fi electronica they ramble down the not often travelled paths of bands like ‘Fog’ or the tape loop experiments of the Beatles during the "Revolver" era. A member of DIY record label the ‘Mentalist Association’, Tea & Toast Band have released two limited EP's and a full length album. A tribe of truly unique music makers carving a niche of their own.
