Who better to get you into a Halloween mood than the undisputed Mistress of Creepy Manga, Junko Mizuno?
Moving from Tokyo to San Francisco, Mizuno has become a global sensation, celebrated for her unmistakeable blending of cuteness, creepiness and erotica. Her incredibly strange manga include warped re-tellings of familiar fairytales like Hansel and Gretel or Cinderalla and her surreal two-volume graphic novel Little Fluffy Gigolo Pelu.
As well as making comics, Mizuno is a multi-media creator producing dazzling paintings, prints, gig posters for bands like Faith No More, Mudhoney and Swans, vinyl figures for KidRobot and others, animated titles for Jonathan Ross's Japanorama TV series, even her own versions of Spider-Man, My Little Pony and Swarovski crystal creatures.
In her exclusive London speaking engagement as part of Comica Festival 2014, Mizuno will be in a Comica Conversation with comics artist, publisher and curator Jason Atomic and drawing live, followed by a book signing.
A selling exhibition of her originals, prints and other items runs at Atomica Gallery, 29 Shorts Gardens, London WC2H 9AP from October 20th to 28th during Comica Festival. With thanks to GB Sasakawa Foundation, Brewery Arts Centre Kendal, and Lakes International Comic Art Festival.
