THE ZEBRAS

On first blush, this sounds like the latest gorgeous, jangly guitar pop record from somewhere north of Manchester. Belle and Sebastian meet the better moments of the Lightning Seeds, with Aztec Camera's Roddy Frame strumming away. But on closer listening there's a certain local twang to both the voices and the music on the second production from this unheralded Brisbane six-piece. There's nary a foot, or a note, wrong on this, and the Zebras can lay claim to being, if not the heirs, then at least the love child of the Go-Betweens. Loaded with hooks and soaked with harmonies, Worry A Lot is the perfect laid-back lovely thing to listen to during this earliest of summers. The stripped back production suits the sound and these small but perfectly formed songs hit the spot in a quite delightful way. If there's a smidgen of a quibble it's that some of the tracks are too brief, with the whole effort clocking in at a sharp 35 minutes. Still nothing quite like wanting more, is there? - The Australian

JE SUIS ANIMAL

Je suis animal from Oslo, Norway, mix 80’s indie with a generous dose of 60’s psychedelia, a spoonful of playful melodies and pinch of girly harmonies into their magic potion. The result is magical, striking and uncannily beautiful. The band released their debut album Self-Taught Magic From a Book on the much-loved Oslo indie label Perfect Pop Records in February this year. The album received fantastic reviews from the press in Norway. Je suis animal were also featured in UK music magazine Plan B in March.

Conceived at art school in the UK, Je suis animal settled in Oslo in 2004 and began shaping a sound - melodic, catchy and dreamy. Their songs tell tales of murder mysteries, magic and primitive art, as well as themes of sex, spying and Norwegian explorer - Roald Amundsen.

RED PONY CLOCK

From the sun-kissed shores of San Diego, California comes Red Pony Clock, an ever-shifting musical collective with a penchant for jubilant horn arrangements, effervescent vocal harmonies, and confessional song writing. Primarily a recording project based on the songs of Gabe Saucedo & Tony Prudhome, the live Red Pony Clock line-up can at times swell into double digits. Members switch back and forth between a wide variety of non-traditional instruments, such as trombone, banjo, accordion and vibraphone

Over the course of 6 years, Red Pony Clock has gone from being a one-man lo-fi recording project to the incalculable, cult-like assemblage of today, sporadically releasing their music on 7" records, cassettes, and hand-decorated CDRs. Their latest release, 'God Made Dirt' on Happy Happy Birthday To Me Records, marks RPC's first foray into professional studio recording. With the help of their old friend, Roy Silverstein at Habitat Studios, Red Pony Clock has finally made the record they've been trying to make since they started. It's a boundlessly sprawling work, made to be absorbed as a whole, and brimming with the spirit of a band who makes music only because they love it more than anything else in the world.
