Jo Enright (The Job Lot, Ideal, Phoenix Nights) headlines the first night of Fred’s Comedy Club, with one of South Africa’s top comedians Cokey Falkow in support and Manchester-based Andy Kind holding it all together. As with every month, two rising stars will feature in the middle section, meaning you’ll get 5 comedians for £5!
Currently seen playing the part of ‘Angela’ in ITV Sitcom The Job Lot, Jo Enright has starred alongside Steve Coogan in I’m Alan Partridge and with Peter Kay in Phoenix Nights. Other recent comedy roles include in BBC Two Sitcom Lab Rats playing the part of Cara and on BBC/HBO’s Life’s Too Short as Warwick Davis’ wife Sue. For more than a decade now the highly acclaimed comedienne Jo Enright has crafted a completely unique style of stand-up comedy. As well as accepting numerous invitations to perform it both on television and radio, Jo also thrives on live theatre performances, for which she has won several comedy awards including the 2002 Chortle Award for ‘The Best Female Circuit Comic.’ and 2001 Best Female on the Jongleurs Comedy Circuit award.
Since starting in the late 90s, Cokey Falkow established himself as one of South Africa’s premier stand-up acts. Appearing at a wide variety of clubs and numerous international comedy festivals, he gathered a cult following. This led to 3 national one-man tours for which Cokey received critical acclaim at Grahamstown National Arts Festival. Cokey was then flown to London to perform in the South African Comedy Festival in London which ran at the Riverside studio theatre in Hammersmith for 5 weeks. Cokey also produced international comedy festivals in his home town of Durban where he introduced Russell Peters to South Africa. Cokey has worked extensively filming both worldwide commercial campaigns and a wide array of supporting roles in international film. After appearing in Starshop Troopers and NCIS, Cokey is now best known internationally for his role as El Aleman in Robert Rodriguez and Robert Orci’s Matador. After 6 years in the US, where he played The Comedy Store regularly and was well known on the improv circuit, Cokey moved from LA to the UK in 2014 and is making a name for himself over here.
Andy Kind won Anything for Laffs in 2005 and recently hurdled over the 1000-gig barrier. Other stuff happened in between. Described by The Scotsman as ‘Terrific’, Andy’s stand-up style can best be described as ‘the joyful rant of a post-30 chaos vacuum’, and he has been featured on BBC1, ITV, Channel 4 in the UK. Not long after supporting Tim Vine, Andy’s first book ‘Stand Up and Deliver’ was published by Lion Hudson. The sequel, ‘The Gig Delusion’ was released by Wilmot Books last year. Andy is now working on his third book (his second with Lion Hudson) and recently hosted successful residences at New Wine 2013 and Spring Harvest 2014. Soon after, Andy toured South Africa alongside Mark Palmer.
