Newly crowned NME Award Winners Happyness are planning a string of headline dates this May, which will also take in a first appearance at The Great Escape. Currently on the road with JAWS, Happyness depart for SXSW and a US tour in March and April, before returning for shows in Europe and their own headline UK tour.
After a whirlwind 2014, which ultimately saw the South London trio make NME's Best Newcomers list, as well as The Sunday Times Best Albums of The Year, Happyness announced in January that they have signed to Moshi Moshi Records for the UK. On 30 March, a full re- issue of their acclaimed debut Weird Little Birthday will be released, in an expanded edition?? that includes four bonus tracks. The band's first single of 2015, A Whole New Shape, is released on the same day.
Tour support comes from Crushed Beaks. Both based in south-east London, Poile and Morris bonded over this shared love having met through mutual band friends - everything from classic Argento to the ultimately obscure ends of Italian slashers. Once the two met creatively over a rough set of demos that Poile had written out of his shed, Crushed Beaks became a roughshod, DIY force that embodied their heroes cinematic ethics. Poile's pop sensibilities consistently shine through the dusk of reverberated guitars as Alex Morris relentless drumming brings an inimitable life to each song. Comparisons to the likes of No Age and My Bloody Valentine go some way to encapsulating the urgency of their sound - but go little way in experiencing it in person.
Opening the show are Leeds quartet Mush, who formed in 2014.
