'Estela Telerman's work represents a landmark in the historiography of Argentine music.'
La NaciĆ³n
The Argentine tango is to be found ever more frequently in the concert hall in the form of Piazzolla as the classical world increasingly embraces his tango nuevo. Pre-eminent Argentine concert pianist and musicologist, Estela Telerman, has made a career from the historical study of 'classical' tango, which in fact pre-dates Piazzolla as far back as the inception of tango itself in the late 19th century. A leading authority in this field, Telerman presents a unique lecture-recital exploring the relationship between Argentine classical composers and the tango, addressing the evolution of the genre from 1867 to the present day. The programme traces the evolution of the tango from a hybrid form derived from the habanera, through tango proper, concert tango and deconstructed tango. Piazzolla enthusiasts will find much to discover in this essential guide to one of tango's lesser-known branches.
