N | 7:30pm |
London based polish saxophonist, composer and band leader Leszek Kulaszewicz, became a professional musician in 2010. A graduate from both Polish and British Universities, it was in the cosmopolitan atmosphere of London, that he became influenced through cooperating, performing and recording with musicians from many different backgrounds. This gave him an insight into the musical spirits of other cultures, inspiring and motivating him to create his own musical style as a composer and performer.
The first part of the evening’s concert will have a Polish flavour. Leszek will perform a selection of his recent projects – original compositions and traditional Polish songs “O mój rozmarynie”, “Czerwone maki” performed to unique jazz arrangements as well as tributes and dedications to polish guitarist Jarek Śmietana and pope John Paul II amongst others.
In the second part the Quartet will welcome fabulous Brigitte Beraha presenting standards and songs from her latest albums… Brigitte is now recognized as one of the most versatile and exciting vocalists to emerge on the UK jazz scene in the last decade.
“A great musician, Brigitte Beraha uses her voice like an instrument in the tradition of people like Flora Purim, Tania Maria and Esperanza Spalding. ” Julian Joseph, Jazz Line-Up, BBC Radio 3
