Texas born Katy Moffatt has earned a substantial cult following among roots-music fans and plenty of critical respect for her blend of country, folk, rock, pop, and blues. The younger sister of Nashville-based singer/songwriter Hugh Moffatt, it is clear that Katy sings and writes with the voice of hard-won authority. With a career spanning 30 years, this unconstrained, red-headed bard first went on the road in 1976 as the opening act for Muddy Waters. Since then, she has frequently played in Canada, England, France and Scandinavia and collaborated on albums with Kate Brislin and the late Country Dick Montana amongst others. She also contributed a track to the acclaimed songwriters' tribute to Merle Haggard, Tulare Dust; did time in The Pleasure Barons with Montana, Dave Alvin, Mojo Nixon, and John Doe; and in 1992 released Dance Me Outside, a duet with her brother Hugh.
With eight solo albums to date, the most recent release Cowboy Girl, sees Katy travel on an old and dusty trail - one perhaps more deeply rooted in her than any she has travelled before. In the words of poet Paul Zarzyski, "... she sticks to each note, spurrin' pretty out into the purple sage and leaving us listeners dazzled by the soulful vistas across which her voice ranges with ease, with grace, with a gritty musical savvy that turns us into believers."
